RECOMMENDATIONS finalized by a Pakistan Medical Association’s (PMA) committee regarding pay and service structure of the doctors all over the country will be presented by PMA counsel, Advocate Azhar Siddique in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on the next date of hearing.

A press release here on Sunday said Dr Ashraf Nizami was chairman of the committee. PMA representative Dr Izhar Chaudhry said that the committee unanimously adopted the recommendations of the PMA’s central council regarding the announcement of separate pay scales for health professional along with pension and gratuity, which had already been implemented at the Shaikh Zayed Hospital Lahore through a presidential ordinance.

The doctors at Shaikh Zayed Hospital had been drawing salaries of the new scales for the last 3 months. PMA said that the provincial governments were bound to implement the same at the provinces.

According to new scales, grade 1 to 7 will be for paramedical staff, nurses and others while the doctors will be in grade 9 to 13. Scale 9 will be equivalent to 19, scale 10 is equal to grade 20, scale 11 equal to 21 and scale 12 equal to 22 while the chief executive and head of institution will have grade 13 equivalent to grade 23. The stipend of postgraduate trainee will be Rs 50,000 and of house officer will be Rs 24,000.
