IIFA started out in the year 2000 with the mission of putting Indian Cinema on a global platform by celebrating and recognizing the best performers with an annual awards ceremony at an international destination. Since 2000 the event has grown from ‘One Amazing Night’ to a glorious three-day Weekend, which celebrates and hosts various events and activities relating to the Indian film industry. Zoya Akhtar’s wish that the technical team behind Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara should win awards at the IIFA this year has been fulfilled as the film scooped up five trophies in the category.
Zoya herself won the best screenplay award for the film.
Bosco-Caesar won Best choreography for the song Senorita, Carlos Catalan won the best Cinematography trophy, Anand Subaya won for editing and Arjun Mathur took home the best sound mixing award.
Close on the heels of ZNMD was the visual effects magic Ra.One, which grabbed awards for special effects (Red Chilles Entertainment), Sound design (Resul Pokutty and Amrit Pritam Dutta), production design (Saby Cyril) and song recording (Vijay Dayal).
Blockbuster The Dirty Picture was also not left behind as it won three awards this evening — costume design (Niharika Khan), best make-up (Vikram Gaikwad) and best dialogue (Rajat Arora).
Singham won the best action award, while AR Rahman was given the best background score award for Rockstar. The maestro was not present to receive his award.
The awards were announced at the IIFA Rocks, an evening full of fashion and music as many Bollywood artistes performed and walked the ramp for designers.

The 13th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards will be held in Singapore this year from June 7-9. While the nominations for the main categories were announced a few days ago, the awards in the technical category have already been declared.
But believe it or not, Shahrukh Khan’s sci-fi adventure film RA.One – touted to be the frontrunner for its special effects – has not won more awards than Hrithik Roshan’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Zindagi… garnered five awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Screenplay, while SRK’s film got four awards including one in the Special Effects (Visuals) category. Vidya Balan’s The Dirty Picture is No.3 with three awards, including Costume Designing. AR Rahman won for best Background Score for Rockstar. The winners will be handed over the trophies in Singapore.

Zoya Akhtar’s road movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is leading the nomination pack of the 13th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards with 14 nods, while Vidya Balan’s The Dirty Picture follows closely behind with 13. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has bagged nominations including best picture, best direction for Zoya Akhtar, best actor in a leading role for Hrithik Roshan. Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar have been nominated in best performance in a supporting role, male, while Kalki Koechlin has been nominated in best actor in supporting role, female. Musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have been nominated for music direction, while Javed Akhtar for best lyrics for Khaabon ke parindey. The film has also been nominated in the best story category. Other nominations include technical categories.
Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture has bagged 13 nominations including best actress for Vidya for playing southern sex symbol Silk Smitha. Other nominations include best picture, best direction, best performance in supporting role male for Emraan Hashmi and Naseerudding Shah. Naseer has also been nominated in the best actor in a negative role category. The Dirty Picture has also bagged nomination for best story, best lyrics and best playback singer male for Kamaal Khan for Ishq sufiyana. Kamaal will vie for the winner’s trophy with Ash King for I love you, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for Teri meri, Mika Singh for Subha hone na de and Mohit Chauhan for Nadaan parindey. Singer Shreya Ghoshal has bagged two nominations for her songs Teri meri and Ooh la la.
In best performance in the leading role male category, Hrithik will be competing along with Amitabh Bachchan for Aarakshan, Salman Khan for Bodyguard, Shahrukh Khan for Don 2, Ranbir Kapoor for Rockstar and Ajay Devgn for Singham.The nominations of best performance in a leading role female include Priyanka Chopra for 7 Khoon Maaf, Kareena Kapoor for Bodyguard, Mahie Gill for Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster and Kangna Ranaut for Tanu Weds Manu.
Those competing in best performance in supporting role female are Parineeti Chopra for Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Swara Bhaskar for Tanu Weds Manu, Sonali Kulkarni for Singham and Divya Dutta for Stanley Ka Dabba.
The nominations for best performance in a negative role include Irrfan Khan for 7 Khoon Maaf, Boman Irani for Don 2, Vidyut Jamwal for Force and Prakash Raj for Singham.
